Who We Are
GIRLS RUN MISSOULA IS AN
8-WEEK PROGRAM OFFERED ONCE A WEEK AT VARIOUS LOCATIONS. SESSIONS OCCUR IN THE FALL, WINTER, SPRING, & SUMMER. LED BY QUALIFIED PROFESSIONALS, WE FOCUS ON GOAL SETTING, RELATIONSHIP DEVELOPMENT, & COMMUNITY.
EACH SESSION INCLUDES TWO 5K RUNS, TRAIL RUNNING, OBSTACLE COURSES, RUNNING GAMES, LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES WITH PROFESSIONAL MENTORS, & SERVICE PROJECTS.
RUNNING IS FUN, AFFORDABLE, AND EASY TO LEARN.
It helps kids improve in other sports, have strong role models, and encourages healthy friendships!
The brain stimulation caused from running provides access to areas of the brain that allow us to feel vulnerable with others.
This matters because young girls between the ages of 8 - 11 have a lot of stressors, and this is the perfect age to encourage self-exploration and positive peer relationships. Exercising as a group provides opportunities for girls to talk about the changes that are occurring in their bodies and emphasizes the importance of safe relationships.
BY MANY MEASURES, GIRLS ARE EXCELLING LIKE NEVER BEFORE, AND AT THE SAME TIME, GIRLS' ANXIETY RATES HAVE BEEN SKYROCKETING WHILE CONFIDENCE LEVELS DECREASE.
GIRLS RUN MISSOULA BELIEVES THAT WE CAN CHANGE THIS TREND BY INSTILLING PROTECTIVE FACTORS SUCH AS SOCIAL CONNECTION, CONCRETE SUPPORT NETWORKS, AND SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL COMPETENCE.
GIRLS RUN MISSOULA IS:
GRM is Spreading the Love with Origami Friendship Birds!
With a commitment to connection, GRM participants make origami friendship birds to donate to local organizations. We are especially focusing on those that serve hard to reach populations like homebound individuals and the homeless.
Community service helps girls connect their values, strengths, and passion. Giving back to their community builds compassion for others.
Keep your eyes open for GRM birds in the Missoula community!
Develop Friendships, Find Healthy Mentors, & Meet Professional Role Models!
Each season, professional role models visit Girls Run Missoula to speak about important topics such as:
GRM Runs River and Mountain Trails, Through Parks and Fields!
While remaining mindful of healthy exercise levels for this age, we set running goals to gauge our progress with fitness. This is done primarily by running two 5k races - the first as the "practice" run and the second as the "accomplishment" run. Each girl's goals are unique, and there is no right or wrong way to do it.
In addition to 5ks, we:
